Usage guide
Set it up once, then get on with listeningOrdered as settings first, troubleshooting second, and the awkward questions last. If you just installed the app, read the quality and cache sections. Installation itself is covered on the download page and not repeated here.
Choosing a quality tier
The tiers differ in data and storage as much as in sound. Rough figures per hour of listening, useful for matching a mobile plan:
| Tier | Bitrate | Data per hour | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | 128 kbps | approx. 55 MB | Commuting, speakers, Bluetooth |
| Higher | 192 kbps | approx. 85 MB | Everyday wired earphones |
| High | 320 kbps | approx. 140 MB | Quiet, attentive listening |
| Lossless | 900 kbps and up | 400 MB and up | External DAC, desktop |
Bluetooth re-encodes the stream, so lossless over wireless earbuds costs data without a corresponding gain. Set the mobile-data tier one step below the Wi-Fi tier and you will rarely think about it again.
Cache, downloads and disk space
Cache is written automatically as you listen; offline downloads are tracks you chose to save. Clearing the cache never touches playlists or downloads — it only means the next play buffers again.
- Mobile: set the cache limit to 1–2 GB. Oldest entries are evicted once it fills.
- Desktop: cache and download folders can point at different drives; put downloads on the larger one.
- If storage looks unreasonable, check downloads before blaming the cache.
Avoid third-party cleaners that delete files inside the app directory. Removing index files leaves playlists visible but every track marked for re-download.
Playback and sign-in troubleshooting
Work through these in order; most issues surface in the first three:
- Try a different track. If only some fail, it is licensing, not the client.
- Drop one quality tier. Constant buffering is usually bandwidth, especially on lossless.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to isolate the network or its DNS.
- Confirm automatic time sync. Clock drift breaks session validation.
- On desktop, check whether a proxy tool in global mode is intercepting playback.
- Only then reinstall — and sign in on the web player first to rule out the account.
Multi-device sync and local files
Cloud playlists, favourites and follows appear anywhere you sign in. Imported local audio does not travel: files scanned into the desktop library exist only on that machine, and a new device needs them copied over and rescanned.
- Playlist order can lag briefly between devices; a refresh lines it up.
- Build and reorder playlists on desktop, where multi-select and dragging work properly.
- Quality and cache settings are per device on purpose — keep the phone conservative.
Store region and availability
Two separate limits are often confused. Whether the app listing appears in your store depends on the region of your store account. Whether a given track plays depends on the licensing scope for that title. A working install can still show greyed-out tracks, and no client version or reinstall changes that.
If you listen on a restricted network, test the web player first — that tells you whether you are dealing with the client or the connection. This site does not publish ways around licensing scope and does not recommend modified clients.
